looks like a defect on your print actually... something like an xray or UV exposure thingy or maybe just old film........ not sure if this can be corrected in photo shop.

I've had the same problems with my old flatbed scanner (about two years ago :) ) and I found out that the problem is actually caused by either the scanner itself or by the scanning software. I solved the problem by using another scanning software. From other I have heared that recalibrating your scanner may also help (not sure whether this is possible with your scanner).

It actually is possible to solve these pictures with Photoshop (mask the parts with the magenta cast and play around with the colour balance), but these are not the tasks you are meant to waste your time with.

I had a go at this one in Corel Photopaint, and it proved to be a 5 minute job.

1 - mask off the sky (use the magic wand for this), invert the selction (so the plane is masked) and feather the mask by a couple of pixels.

2 - use the Hue/Saturation tool. You can select a particular colour (in this case magenta) and alter the hue, saturation and brightness. I just played with the sliders until the magenta came close to matching the blue.

3 - the underside of the plane looked a bit reddish, so again a mask around the affected area and a desaturation of the reds in Hue/Saturation did the trick.

4 - remove masks, minor adjustments to the overall tone of the image (using curves) and a little USM.

The interesting thing is that while this did take just a few minutes in Photopaint, I also tried the same process using Photoshop, which, on the surface at least, has esentially the same tools - but in this case, the Hue/ Saturation functionl works differently, and matching the magenta to the blue proved impossible. In PS, the task would need to be approached differently, possibly using colour masking and/or channels.

Cheers,

Colin

Thanks guys ... (and Chris, thanks for the very welcoming message on my fist acceptance here!).

As you've probably guessed, I've been "monitoring" this site for quite some time. Initially, the anti-A.net feeling that seemed to predominate put me off - and I'm not saying I agree or disagree with those opinions - but lately, I sense this site has got beyond that and is forging its own unique idenity.

In short, I like the "vibe" here ... a little more relaxed.

I hope to continue to upload to both sites, but different shots to each site - at A.net, I won't deny that some of my uploads are commercially motivated - here I intend to upload just for the fun of it.

Let me stress that last bit - just for fun, and I would hate anyone here or at A.net to read anything more than that into the fact that I'm uploading pictures here. Furthermore, unless I stay a little longer than I should in the pub and forget, that's probably the last time I'll mention A.net on this site.

Cheers,

Colin
