For the USAF, I agree on the SR-71, wicked-a$$ plane.
For Germany's AF, the first jet fighter ever, the Messerschmitt Me 262:

I absolutley love to see heavy russian fighters in action, especially the SU-27. It is just an impressive machine in terms of size, looks and power.
The best looking military jet by far is indeed the F-16 imho.

I like the F-15 and its awesome rotation style  . I kinda got sick of the SR-71 after my science teacher never shut up about it :-P

Dan,

Too bad the F-14 is a NAVAL aircraft and not an AIR FORCE bird.

Would there be other air forces in the world who operate them? (including on behalf of the Navy). Over here it's kind of like that with most of the Navy's aircraft.

Mr pedantic.... ;)

"in the early '70s the shah was about to buy new fighters for the Imperial Iranian Air Force. The choice was either the MDD F-15 Eagle or the Grumman F-14 Tomcat. After a competetive show and certainly a lot of talks about the pros and cons of both fighters, Iran decided to go for the F-14 Tomcat."

You worked on them for 6 years yet have no pics in your DB, your unit would be so disapointed ;)

Thanks for serving!

I worked on them at Malmstrom AFB from '90-'96. Unfortunately, I was not into photography as I am now. I can only imagine if I was how many pics I would have. I was assigned to the 97ARW which, shortly after I moved back to Michigan, moved lock, stock and barrel to McDill AFB.

For me I would have to say either the F-15 or the A-10.....I just love the sound of the A-10 on a strafing run, both the whine of the engine and that killer nose mounted gun.

I would have to go with the F-15B, for the simple reason they let me take a ride in one, 3 years later I am still high from it. :-D

Mine would have to be the C-17. Last summer I got to ride in one as part of an AFROTC program, the flight included a tactical decent from 24,000ft- what a ride.
