Buisiness called for a last minute trip to Cincinnati on Monday morning so the earliest flight out was required. DL has no more mainline service out of TUL so the CRJ-100 Comair flight was the first ride of the day to Cincy. Ah, the joys of the 40 seater Comair has assigned to the TUL-CVG run.... near 100%load factor in a plane the size of small school bus. The flight (DL 5670 N938CA) was scheduled to depart at 0620 and actually pulled away from the gate a couple of minutes early.
After boarding and closing the door, a near 400 pound behmouth decided that she was entirely too cramped in her window seat with a seat mate of near equal proportion so the only logical choice for her was to move to the empty aisle seat next to me. Again, the joys of flying the baby CRJ. I was wedged in my window seat as tightly as it could be imagined. Thankfully, I had removed the trusty 20D from the bag before the hulk decided to move seats. Of course, at that time of morning it was still extremely dark, so no pics of the roll out or takeoff.
When the sun came up, I was poised and ready. The window was so scratched and crazed that it was difficult to see out of, let alone take pictures out of. So, I put the camera up and decided to sleep. Wrong again, we were flying over some storms and the chop factor as approaching 85% on a scale of 1-100%. The creature next to me was gripping her armrests and moaning. Finally, the f/a made it to our row and gave her some crackers and pretzels. She was happy for the remainder of the 1 hour 20 minute flight.
We landed at CVG on 18C a couple of minutes ahead of schedule and then taxied over to the Comair teminal, haircare and tire center. It continues to remind me of a Greyhound terminal both in appearance and smell. I was so happy to get over to terminal B where there were loads of DL mainline and a nice spot to stop for some phone calls and some Goldstar chilidogs.
Delta Connection/Comair is great when you can fly on a -700 series but is seriously lacking on the smaller jets. The flight would have been much better had the behmouth decided to remain in her assigned seat. On Southwest, she would have been tagged for an extra seat charge. Maybe one day, something other than DL will control CVG.
