Hello,
I am planning a trip south, way south:razz: to Australia and New Zealand after I graduate. I was wondering what airline you would recommend. I am leaning towards QF since I can get miles for it, and the IFE looks awesome. But Air NZ is little cheaper, and their new IFE looks pretty cool. What would you guys recommend?

Where excatly do you live?

Basically, I would choose something that would fit around your travelling plan. So if you wanted to visit New Zealand, then Australia, choose NZ

Whereas if you want to just go to Australia, choose QF.

On terms of Airline services, I'd choose QF becausen they've recently just this year released AVOD onto their aircraft. Also they were voted the 2nd best Airline of 2005 from Skytrax, and believe me, they are good.

Though, NZ are a great airline too. If you want seat pitch, and great service, choose NZ. Only if you don't care about the IFE.

I live here in Alaska. Both NZ and QF leave from cities equally distant from here. QF has a flight going from LAX-AKL-CHC then I might take them over to AUS, then back home. I am still researching now, but I would still like to know your opinions.

Go with Air NZ if you can be sure you'll be on one of the 747s with the new IFE system. Might pay to either ask or go via SFO. If not, go with Qantas; They are slightly better compared to Air NZ's old economy class. You also have a lot of options for the Aussie-NZ leg .

QF for now has a better IFE than NZ, depending on when you plan on flying and how quickly NZ reconfigures its 744s you may get AVOD. Assuming that you are in Y and graduate in May/June, I'd imagine the entire fleet would be done by that time if not very close to (i.e the last aircraft is being refitted).

QF is a great airline but is also very cramped in Y with a measily 31'' pitch on the 744, NZ on the other hand has 34'' on their 747s and will remain 34'' even after the new seats are fitted. Both have excellent service but I seem to prefer the food on NZ.

I say, go with NZ.

Well in that case you'll definitely get an upgraded aircraft if you take NZ. I'm sure you won't be disappointed, I haven't been yet.

Cool. I might take QF on the way back from AUS. I figure that if I am flying that far, I oughta get some FF miles:)

ZK-SUI & SUJ have been refitted already , mean while ZK-NBT is currently undergoing it's refit and is due for completion around December , you could always take the direct LAX-CHC flight if your keen ! NZ19 is the flight #

Unless he comes up with a lot of money, I dont think he will be flying Biz or First, and isnt it you have to be 18 to go to Australia/New Zealand for pleasure without a legal guardian?

I will be 18 by that time. I turn 18 next November, not this one.

I didn't realise it was so far away. In that case definately go NZ. Hopefully they'll have most of their 777's by then ;-)
