I'm flying southwest to LA in october and I was wandering about the service. Will I get a meal on the MDW-LAX leg? I know that's like a 3 hour flight. I've only flown Southwest twice but they were SDF-MDW and SDF-BWI, which are both almost 1 hour.

You won't get a meal, but you will get packaged snacks.
They consist of Oreo Cookies, Grahm Crackers and some chips or other type of crackers. Then you have the usual bags of peanuts, and unlimited drinks in a can. You can have as many snack packs" as you want.
Enjoy the flight on Southwest, anymore questions let us know!

As I understand, you don't have assigned seats there do you? My worry about going on standby is that I'll end up sitting next to some smelly fat guy who needs two seats.

Are you flying non-rev or on a buddy pass?

I don't know. I'm just going standby becuase it's cheaper. My mom works in the airline industry in a way. I don't know what a buddy pass is. Could you explain?

I can't imagine how it is cheaper. Generally a stand by ticket on SWA is the same as a walk up fare, which is usually MORE expensive.
A buddy pass is a pass offered by Airlines to employees. Each employe usually gets 3 of them per year. They may give them to anyone they want. The holder of the buddy pass is on stand by the entire flight and risks getting pulled of the flight at any time to make room for revenue passengers. Generally you must dress nicely as well. Most airline you only pay 10% of the airfare. Southwest it is free for Buddy Pass, you don't pay anything, not even the taxes.

I think that's what I have. I can't wear shorts or blue jeans on the plane.

Ok, Also sounds like a Buddy pass to me. Also in regards to Assigned seating it doesnt matter if there is assigned seating or not on Southwest because regardless, you board after everyone else boards first and when you are given the go ahead to board, meaning no more revenue passnegers are on board, thrn you are allowed to board the plane. Then you find the open seat and sit down.
Same goes for those who do have assigned seating, buddy pass holders are not allowed assigned seating either. They take the last open seat on the plane.
If you'd liker PM me or AIM me or whatever for more information.

Wow buddy passes on WN are cheap. I flew ITH-PIT-LAX when my mom used to work for US and I even got upgraded to F  Didn't pay a dime either.

Alex...i remember you're hearing impaired. SWA will give you a pre-boarding pass. It means you can come first to board the plane and grap the first row of seat. I had done this before twice and happy to sit in the first row as if I was in the first class. hehehe
Ask SWA staff in the gate to give you a blue "preboarding" bag.
Cheers

Are you saying for flying Stand By? Cause I also have a buddy pass on SWA to use. I generally do use the blue pass to board early if i don't get an A card. muwahaha lol.

She probably got what's called an ID-90 discount. Most airline employees and their dependents can fly other airlines for a 90% discount of the full unrestricted fare. It would you mean you do fly standby and have to dress up somewhat.

Just remember if you have the blue pass you can no longer sit in the roomy exit row, the one without the seat in the row in front of you. I think that ended May 31.

That is fine, I am 5'6 my legs are short so I can sit in 31 inch and still be ok, the 33 pitch WN offers is just to generous for me.

That ID-90 thing sounds like what my mom got. My brother wanted to do the same but since he's over 21 he can't do it.
