This forum might be a great place to discuss camera equipment and the experiences you´ve made with it.

Plane spotting I´ve mainly done with an Asahi-Pentax KIIb camera equipped with a 35-210 mm Vivitar Zoom lens and a winder. Got me great pics so far, but with digital cameras becoming affordable, that relatively heavy equipment had to give place to a Fuji 2.0 Mpixel camera on travels. There´re of course some light conditions when the digital camera becomes useless.

What are your experiences ?

Well, I'm still a student with a part-time job, so I haven't much money to spent.

I found a used Pentax P4020 (if I remember correctly) with an 28-70 and 80-200mm zoom lenses. I also use a 2.0x convertor.

This type is semi-automatic, so you have to select the light through the diafragma, while the speed is selected automaticly (but I can do it manually).

Exactly a camera for me! I don't like those things were everyting is done for me.

My father has a digital camera with 35-300mm lens and a good quality and resolution (it can make 1200*1600pixels pictures). I use it sometimes to show my photos on the internet.

Hey,

One tip: Go Digital nod.gif !

Me uses the Canon D30 series with a 75-300mm lens and I'm very happy with it. Canon also got a couple of more "stashy" models on the market..D60 and 1D, last one is around 4000 $ images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Good luck tough..

Digital is very limited in quality. Especially if you make 300 pics a day! The old way (negatives) is still the best, I think.

Yeah, some likes digital, some likes slides.. some likes negatives - thats reality, tough I like the advantage of looking at the picture, deleting it if it sucks (Which they btw never do images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif )instead of getting the picture developed in a store and one week later finding out that 30 % of the pics was "not jetphotos.net material" laff.gif

Fuji Discovery 1050 or something like that. 38-105mm zoom, enough modes to satisfy me.

Only problem is my crap scanner. bah! uhoh.gif

I have had great success with the Canon Eos 630 of which I own two. Six FPS (frames per second) being plenty fast for great arrival and departure shots. I use two Canon lenses (28-80mm) and (75-300mm) which gives me good range when on the ramp or shooting approach shots.

As for film, I shoot three types plus digital. My films of choice are Kodachrome 64 (K64) and Fuji ProviaF both slide film and Fuji Reala, print film. I keep an Olympus 3040 digital camera with me for quick shots inorder to e-mail sample photos to magazines and or clients.

That's my two cents, happy shooting and cheers.

Hi Guys

I would have to agree with Thomas Lorentzen to go digital.
I only started this hobby just over 3 weeks ago after looking at the different aviation photo sites for the past
year and a half, bought a used Sony F707 from the States and
an Olympus B300 T/C from England, and my son picked up Photoshop7 and Elements 2 from Bangkok, and I jumped in the
deep end.

At 60yrs of age with no photography experience
at all except for a 20yr old Canon sureshot which my wife
and I have put about 10 rolls through it in that time, I
am having a ball, although I must admit to bogging down
on the learning curve for Photoshop, but the camera itself is so easy when you can check right away and make adjustments as you go untill you get it right.

Ian,

Your photos are absolutely spectacular! You've obviously got a bit more going for you than just a digital camera, as I'm using an F505, and my shots aren't up to par with yours. shake.gif

Here is what I use:
Cameras: Nikon F100 and N70
Lenses: Nikon 80-200mm f2.8, Nikon 70-300mm f4.5-6, Nikon 28-105mm f3.5-4.5

I am looking at getting maybe the Sigma 170-500mm lens but not sure yet.

I just purchased the following:

Camera: Cannon D60
Lense: Canon EF 100-400m f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Lens

I've never used an SLR camera before, so I think I'm probably going to have a pretty steep learning curve. uhoh.gif

I use a Canon Rebel X with a 28-90mm zoom lens. I also have a 70-300mm lens. I was planning to buy some new lenses anything that is lower than 28mm and one that is more than 300mm for cool stuff. I'm still in the process of finding places to get lenses cheap. B&H has been my primary place to get lenses now. clap.gif and I am getting some more stuff but that has to wait for more money to get.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of becoming kinda serious photography wise, especially since I'm probably on of the only people here who lives near LFBO (Toulouse), where the airbus factory is.
I've been looking around for a nice digi cam in the 500$ range, and i've decided that this guy looks like a good buy:
Fuji Fine Pix S602Z (http://www.buydig.com/cgi-local/shop/web_store.cgi?details=yes&pro_id=FJFINEPIXS602&adv=cnet)
http://www.buydig.com/shopimages/FinepixS602_m.jpg
Anyone else use it or know people who do? From all the searching I've done, its one of the best for about 500$
Advice? Thanks...
I hope to get it by December, so expect some of my pics here soon images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Said in another thread, I have a P30N (and not a P4020 as I said earlier). Here's a pic of my camera, including the convertor and 80-200mm lens.

Nikon D70S and Tamron 70-300 mm. Bought these in October 2006 and I'm very pleased with them. Previously used a Minolta Dimage 7hi, but that went phut permanently, only two and a half years after I bought it, which didn't impress me much, given that the camera cost £600+, but, after prolonged negotiations, Minolta/Sony gave me a full refund.

Used to use a Canon EOS 500N film SLR-not as good as the D70S or 7hi in my opinion. Before that, an Olympus OM101-poor camera, looking back. Before that, an Olympus OM10-good camera for its time. Before that, a Ricoh 500G-good viewfinder camera for its time. Before that (we're back to 1971 now!), Kodak Instamatics-rubbish, but I was only a kid then.

Scanner is a Minolta Dualscan IV-excellent negative and slide scanner and streets ahead of two previous (flatbed) scanners from HP and Visioneer-so Minolta did make some decent stuff.
