View Full Version : Aircraft that don't suit their liveries

Which airlines do you think have purchased aircraft that really doesn't suit their livery? Incase you didn't understand that, here's an example:
easyJet's livery looked stunning on the 733 and 73G, but then they purchased the 319 and the livery ruined a perfectly good aircraft!

I hate this. Modernisation. Why dont we just leave it thee way it is. Stop changing something because its one or two years old or its out of the time frame. This goes for everything including the aviation industry.

I just think the classic liveries should stay in the past where they belong!

I think the ANA Livery looks pretty bad on the 777-300.

@LHA340-600: Please don't read the following lines ;).
Okay, from an aesthetical point of view the LH livery (which is ugly for itself) looks even more terrible on their A340-600. Just notice how the "Lufthansa" is cramped at the front, then an all white fuselage until you get some more colours at the tail. How bad can it get?
http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=505840
As for D-AIRX: Oh yes, that one is a whole different story! I have flown with this aircraft when LH made some jubilee flights in NUE and it looks just gorgeous! The colour of the wings isn't even the odd grey but silver as I saw from the inside!
I asked the captain, though, why LH doesn't paint all their aircraft in this livery again and he told me that he had heard this question already all day long ;). Now say something about passengers not caring for the look of an aircraft...

@LHA340-600: yes, it is. Now imagine an A340-600 with that livery!
Actually I quite like the blue livery of Hapag-Lloyd which is a TUI one. These blue 737s with blended winglets are great!

I am not quite sure about Austrian Airlines New Livery, the colors are good, but the distribution and combination look very strange on Long-haul Airbuses. However, on the 767-300ER they don't look bad (better than Lauda's).
I believe however, AC's new colors suit every aircraft (maybe not a DC-9 or any T tails).
Though I like Continental's livery, I've always hated the fact they leave that "dorsal fin" extension of the tail painted white.. it looks silly.
Actually, I've always hated that extension piece on the 737s (300-900) in general... it looks so out of place.

The Deltaflot livery doesn't fit most of the DL fleet. It looked awesome on the 727, MD-11, EMB-120 (I bet it would have looked awesome on the L-1011) and looks good on the ATR-72 and EMB-135/145.

AirTran's new livery just doesn't work completely on the 717. The blue nacelles just don't look right sitting on the tail. On the 737, it looks pretty decent.

I think the AirTran livery would work better if the engines matched and the line that goes up on the side of the aircraft went along with the slope of the tail.

I think the Thai livery on the A346 and 744 looks weird. The purple needs to go further foward.
EXACTLY! The new Thai scheme looks great on the tails, but the front of the aircraft looks way to plain. The tail is soo rich and vibrant then the front looks so plain! Kinda like they used all the paint on the tail and ran out for the front! A bigger logo, or just some more colors could make the 747s and A340s look great!
Also, as for the comments on FL's color scheme, I agree. The blue nacelles look horrible. The old scheme looks great and a little classy. The new scheme seems too much "Mardi Gras" for me. Anyway, I saw the proposals for the 737s in the old scheme and they didn't look that bad.
I think that most CRJ 700/900 (the ones that look extremely stretched) look bad in the schemes that they are put in, they just look awkward e.x. The America West CRJs.
As for "modernization", the only reason that I would support it is because all of the major legacy carriers in Europe sport the trachy "euro-White" schemes. For once I would love to see someone break away from the pattern and decide to add some color. I undersatnd that the white works for them and adds a n air of prefssionality, but look at AirCanada. I hated the green at first, but the move from Euro-white was a good one, and now I love the scheme!

The Delta Connection livery looks decent on the CRJ family, but the CRJ tail is too small to really make the Wavy Gravy tail look good. I really can't wait to see how the DL Connection livery will look on the EMB-170, I mean if it makes the US Airways livery look even better than it already did (Those E-Jet winglets make it), than it'll make the Deltaflot livery look pretty good.

Do you have any idea how much it costs to re-paint an aircraft? Alitalia are struggling to make ends meet. They are hardly going to splash out on a new scheme until they are financially more stable. The same goes for many airlines that might look as though they need "updating"
Having said that, BA's scheme is bland and boring. About time they had a change - and I don't mean like the World Tails disaster lol!! As they are now operating with a profit margin I reckon they could afford it - and give me a pay rise!!!
Bring back Braniff, that's what I say

I hate the new JAT livery, the traffic light colours. I also hate the new name being "Jat Airways". I've never herd such a retrated name before.
JAT stands for Jugoslovenski Aero Transport or Yugoslav Air Transport. By adding the Airways to JAT it makes, Yugoslav Air Transport Airways.
They should have left the original colours and the big JAT letters. If they need to then they should write Serbia Montenegro Airways/Airlines in red under the JAT, going along the body of the aircraft. Would look much better.
Singapore Airlines' livery is a bit plain. And to the dude who has the signature stating that SQ has cramped seating, have you ever flown SQ? I have and didn't find it cramped both on the B744 or the B772. Actually I had a very comfortable journey with them on all 4 flights i done with them.

John, James asked what colors PT737SWA meant, and since nobody replied to his question, I thought I would- and I DID contribute along with replying you must remember ;) There's nothing wrong with my reply, I helped a member understand what another member was talking about and it wasn't off topic either, it's as simple as that :)
And yes: I DO love the qantas liveries, and I DO love Maersk's NEW livery, but the old ones simply didn't suit ANY plane, especially not the 737 ;)

Here are my opinions regarding the topic.
1. Czech Airlines (CSA) and the A310-300. I think the livery is quite boring.
2. JetBlue Airways and the A320-232. I love the various tails, but just one thing..where's the blue??? (Additionally, regarding the interior, where's the blue???)
Again, these are my opinions..
