This is the first trip report I have written, so please hang in there.

For my first leg I flew Kagoshima to Fukuoka.

16/12/04 JAL3646
1045 Kagoshima
1125 Fukuoka
McDonnell Douglas MD-81
JA8498

This was a very short sector. Refreshments consisted of a small lolly, but that was more than sufficient.

Some shots of the plane (from previous dates).

I then had a few hours stopover in Fukuoka where I caught the subway into town and had some lunch. I then returned to Fukuoka airport for my next flight and managed to get these shots.

Cabin service was a choice of hot or cold drinks.

Before boarding, I managed to get a shot of this old 747-200.

16/12 JL777
2125 Kansai Airport
0655 Brisbane
Boeing 747-300
JA8187

[photoid=396791]

I was lucky to be seated on the upper deck in an aisle seat. Meal was served about 2 hours after takeoff and I chose the beef stew and red wine. It was very good. IFE was basically absent so I tried to get a few hours sleep. This was what I awoke to.

[photoid=396795]

Breakfast was a little dissapointing with only a piece of pasty handed out.

I got this shot before leaving.
[photoid=396746]

8/1 JL774
2235 Brisbane
0625 Tokyo Narita
Boeing 747-400
JA8089

I thought the idea of a night departure back to Japan was a great idea. So I was very happy when I was able to book on this service.

[photoid=405298]

Just after take off a sandwich was handed out for a snack. That snack was to last the next 6 hours until breakfast was served before landing in Tokyo. I must admit I would have liked something a little more substantial but it wasn't bad.

<IMG SRC=http://www.jetphotos.net/user-uploads/141_4193.JPG>

This was the best show on the PTV all night. The seat in front might have been broken as it reclined a lot more than all other seats in that row. It made watching my PTV difficult and would have given me sore eyes and a headache if I persisted.

We landed in Tokyo about 15 minutes ahead of schedule, which was lucky as it took 15 mintues to taxi to our gate. Customs was a breeze at that time of the morning and I managed to get the 0655 bus to Haneda airport. I thought 30 minutes was very fast for customs at such a big airport.

9/1 JL1711
0915 Tokyo Haneda
1110 Fukuoka
Boeing 747-400D
JA8903

I arrived at Haneda at about 0800 and checked in for my 1030 flight. I kindly asked if there was a chance if I could be put on an earlier flight and was placed on one leaving at 0915. This is what was waiting at the gate. You can make out Mt. Fuji in the background.

<IMG SRC=http://www.jetphotos.net/user-uploads/141_4197.JPG>

I was seated on the upper deck and soon found that this flight was basically empty.

[photoid=405677]

Soon after take off I got some nice shots of Haneda Airport. The sky was very clear this Sunday morning.

We also flew right past Mt. Fuji which was spectacular.

[photoid=408294]

Before landing in Fukuoka we flew over some mountains in Southern Honshu. They all looked very cold.
<IMG SRC=http://www.jetphotos.net/user-uploads/142_4238.JPG>

After landing I managed to get a few more shots.

I had a few hours to kill again so I went into the city for some lunch.

9/1 JAC3653
1510 Fukuoka
1600 Kagoshima
NAMC YS-11A
JA8768

I almsot missed this flight. I was so buggered from the flight the night before and all the waiting that I fell alseep next to the gate before boarding. About 3 minutes before the flight was scheduled to take off I was woken with a nice boarding agent asking if I was going to Kagoshima. Forgetting I was in Japan I asked in English what time it was which brought no answer. When I came to, I found myself running to the plane which was quite a way away. Talk about a bit of excitement to liven up the journey.

The view once airbourne was great though.

Overall my travel to Australia with Japan Airlines was great. All flights were on time or early and the service was fantastic. I would not hesitate in recommending them to another traveller.

Thanks for reading.

You're so lucky, you got to fly a new type of aircraft on each trip including the rare YS-11. I really want to go to Japan one day, and hopefully experience some of the adventures you went through.

Living in Japan is a dream for the aviation enthusiast. Almost all domestic trips are on widebodies.

I'll try to make a trip reprt for my next trip. I'm going in February to Sapporo in Hokkaido to see the snow festival. Flights will be on 777-200, 777-300 and 747-400D.

Wow. You flew on the YS11. Is JAL replacing those planes soon?

I would be going to Tokyo next month. But since I am not going to anywhere else in Japan, I guess I won't be seeing the wonderful liveries that are only on domestic planes.

CathayPacific,

I hear that the YS-11 is going to be phased out, but sorry I'm not sure of the date. Perhaps another member may be able to provide that.

Have fun on your trip here. How long will you be in Tokyo for?

Thanks for the comments all.

Wecome to the forums Andrew.
