Delta Air Lines Flight 632
Depart SFO: 7:00 AM
Arrive ATL: 2:00 PM
Aircraft: Boeing 767-400 N828MH
Seat 25F

After 10 days in Reno and San Francisco, it was finally time to go home.I got up about 4:30 AM, got dressed and packed, then took my stuff down to the Marriott's airport shuttle. Their shuttle is also the Hyatt's airport shuttle, so we stopped at the Hyatt before going on to the airport. I thought early on Saturday morning would have no crowds, but I was wrong. That little bus was packed with people, including several traveling back to ATL with me. I got off at Terminal 1, and then got in a relatively short line at curbside. I watched all my bags go back (I thought later that one didnt get to ATL), and then I went off to security. There was nobody in line for security, so I took my shoes off and went on through. My gate, hate 47 was the first one on the left, so I went and sound a spot by the terminal window. There was a NW 752 at the gate next to us bound for Minneapolis which looked pretty full. That flight boarded and left, and then it was our turn. Boarding started about 6:20 AM, and yes the automated calls were still kinda scary. I was in zone 5 seat 25F, so I waited. I got on the massive 764 at 6:30 straight up. I took my seat and found out again that I was right in front of a video screen, no matter I didnt want to watch the movie anyway (scooby doo 2). The F/A shut the door at 7:06 PT, where I then set my watch back to Eastern Time. They showed tha safety briefing on the video screens as we pushed back. The captain said we were taking off on Runway 28L. We taxied, and I saw tha airport Marriott where I was sleeping just hours earlier. We turned on the runway and the captain hit the throttle. Much to my surprise the 764 takeoff wasn't as powerful as the 738. I remember it being said that it just seems to float off the runway, and that was how it felt. The aircraft to me seemed very quiet, even though I was right next to an engine. We got cruising at FL370 Mach .77, and then drinks came around at 11:33 ET. I had water and Lays Snack Stax. They also handed out those biscoff cookies that are so awesome (God I love those). The first noticable turbulence came over Kansas and Oklahoma. Things were smooth from there, and when we got about to Huntsville, Alabama at 2:00, we started our descent. We got near ATL, and we were vectored out east. For those who are framilar with the Atlanta Area, we flew out over Lithonia, and turned around at the Mall of Stonecrest. We made a very hard landing in ATL at 2:30 PM. I didn't catch the runway #, but it was the one on the opposite end of 8L. We arrived at gate A2, and then headed back to the car. I was hoping for a Concourse C or D arrival for a long train ride back, but the train was broken, then I was happy that I landed at A. I still made a pretty hefty walk back to baggage claim, past old international security, and then on to carousel 5. Our bags took a very long time to get back, and when we did get them, only 7 got back. We later found them over in a pile with many others down near the lost bags area. They skycap said that it was just pure laziness. Thanks Delta, you almost made me lose my bag, how thoughtful. :shakehea: I went out to our car, and then it was back home.
Delta wasnt really all that great, but it was better than my 1st flight. If it weren't for that bags, I'd say it was an ok experience.

I take it this flight was today? Any word on when the train will be back in service? I'm flying Northwest out of Atlanta on Tuesday, and it's a pretty good walk to D (or is it C?) but I'm not complaining :)

Nice report

NW is in D, gates D11/12/14 I believe, not sure though. Anyway, when the train breakes down, they usually are able to repair it within 1-3 hours, so Tuesday shouldn't be a problem.

I flew back on June 19th. They said it would be down for only 10 minutes or so, so I imagine it wasnt bad.

I have a pic on the 764 on myaviation.net

Great report. It is funny that Delta has that one gate on Northwest's side of Terminal 1, Concorse C at SFO. You were lucky taking off on the 28s, as domestic departures don't usally get that privillage, at least not when the weather is behaving.
